Medicaid: In the state of WA, Medicaid is known as ‘Apple Health’. Apple Health provides free or low-cost insurance coverage for a myriad of health services in preventative care, cancer screenings, yearly doctor visits and more.

How to apply for Apple Health:
When you’re ready to apply, you’ll need this information:
- Your household monthly income.
- The Social Security numbers and dates of birth for each member of your household.
- Your immigration information, if that applies to you.
- Online: Go to Washington Healthplanfinder – select the “Apply Now” button under Washington Apple Health.
- Mobile app: Download the WAPlanfinder app to create an account and apply for coverage. Available on the App Store and Google Play.
- Phone: Call the Washington Healthplanfinder Customer Support Center at 1-855-923-4633.
- Paper: Submit an Application for Health Care Coverage (18-001P).
- In-person: Local resources who, at no additional cost, can help you apply for health coverage: Health Benefit Exchange Navigator.
Application for individuals who are 65+, Deaf or Disabled:
- Online: Visit Washington Connection
- In person: Find a local DSHS Community Services Office
- Paper application: Complete and return the Application for aged, blind, disabled or long-term care health coverage (form 18-005)
Unable to Qualify, Apply for Special Enrollment:
If you do not qualify for free or low-cost Apple Health, you may still qualify for a Special Enrollment if you have a qualifying life change. A Special Enrollment allows you to enroll in a plan outside of the normal open enrollment period. Once you’ve had a qualifying life change, your household has 60 days to sign up for coverage or shop for a new plan.
Qualifying life changes include things like:
- Losing job-based coverage
- Income changes
- Having a baby
- Getting married
- Gaining a household member (dependent)
- or have certain other life changes
- See more qualifying life changes.
